What is a Virtual Assistant?

A Virtual Assistant (VA) is a business owner who works from their own office providing professional support, services and skills to their clients via phone, fax and internet based technology.  A Virtual Assistant provides administrative, creative and/or technical services. Utilizing advanced technological modes of communication and data delivery, a professional VA assists clients in his/her area of expertise from his/her own office on a contractual basis.

Outlook Email Tip:

You probably know that you can have more than one email account set up in MS Outlook.  You can also have each email account go to a separate folder in your inbox.  This helps keep your your email sorted for you and saves you the time in finding an email from a particular email account.  It's fairly easy to set this up.  Just click on the Tools dropdown, and select Rules and Alerts.  Select the appropriate items to go with your new Rule, and you're set!  Give me a call if you have trouble setting this up.

A Few more words About Outlook Email

Have you been having problems sending mail through Outlook?  It seems many ISPs (Internet Service Providers) are changing the settings needed to send mail.  In their defense, they most likely sent out an email letting you know there was going to be a change and you would need to update your SMTP settings, but this doesn't help the fact that you keep getting a login box popping up that wasn't there before.  If you are using domain email (i.e. mail@kolleenpowers.com) you will probably also need to have you ISP email set up in Outlook.  This would be your @comcast.net, @sbcglobal.net, @surewest.net, etc. email.  When you receive Domain email it is coming in from the hosting server, but when you send any mail out from Outlook it is sending through your ISP unless you are using Webmail.  I simple rule to remember is that if you can receive mail, but can't send it, the problem is with your Internet service provider.  If you can send mail, but aren't receiving it, the problem is with your website hosting server.

PayPal Alert!

Here’s some important info that you need to know when you have a PayPal account.  You will receive emails that appear to be from PayPal from time to time.  Here’s the important part:

PayPal will never ever ask you to click on an email link to log into your account.  Never go into your PayPal account by any means other than going directly to paypal.com in your browser.  These emails you get are called phishing emails.  They are an attempt to get you to type in your login and password so they can gain access to your PayPal account.  PayPal is one of the safest ways to send and collect money over the internet – as long as you never ever click on a link in any email that appears to be from PayPal.  I forward these emails to spoof@paypal.com and they try to shut down these scumbags, but they just keep popping up somewhere else.  If there is ever any suspicious activity on your PayPal account, PayPal will call you (yes on the telephone) and ask you to verify recent activity.  They won’t ask for your username or password.

Remember, PayPal is safe, never click on a link in any email that looks like it’s from PayPal because if  it wants you to click a link, it isn’t from PayPal.  If you’re ever in doubt about any email you receive, call me or call PayPal.
