Build it yourself site such as Intuit Homstead® or GoDaddy® Website Tonight
Have you seen the Intuit® commercial promoting their
build-it-yourself websites for $4.99 a month? I’ve already had to
re-design 4 of them for people who signed up and gave up because it’s
just not as easy as it looks. These customers wasted many hours of
their time to try to save some money, but ultimately, didn't have the
skills or knowledge to do the job right.
In
that Intuit® commercial there is a man who says “I hired someone to
build a website for me… 5 months ago”! That commercial makes website
designers look bad, but unfortunately it is often the case that
fly-by-night web designers take your money and don't follow through.
This is my full time job and I have over 12 years of experience doing

I went to the page showing off customer websites built by Intuit® Homestead websites and looked at the code. Not ONE was properly formatted to be searchable! I would have thought Intuit would have cleaned up the code before posting these sites as good examples!
Yes, you can make a pretty website through a build-it-yourself company, but you are limited as far as features, look and customization of the site. And if you actually want people to find your website you will need to learn SEO (search Engine Optimization) because these websites don't do it for you.

Management programs have become very popular because a lot of people
want the option to update their own website so they don't have to pay
for updates. Then they are given a login and password to manage
their site and can't figure out how to do it. I've tried to
perform updates on some of these sites and I can't figure it out!
It's easier for me to re-design the site. I can create a
Wordpress website and give free online training on how to maintain it.
Note: Wordpress Websites may be limited as far as the look and options
avaialavle.
My website hosting includes a control panel you can access that has a built in html editor. I can step you through how to access your pages to make minor updates to the text. When you need an update that you can't perform through the control panel, I can do it quickly and affordably. If I do something that only take me ten minutes I don't even charge for it. Hire someone who does websites "on the side", but doesn't design websites for a living
If you hire someone who is building websites as a sideline, you'll
most likely have a long wait to get the job done and you'll get much
less than you pay for. Website design is not all that difficult,
but keeping up to date on current standards has to be a full time job.
If your site isn't properly optimized and coded, it won't be found by
the search engines. Having a website is only half
the
battle - having it come up in search results is a completely different
issue.
A lot of people who can build a website are doing it for extra income, but don't really have the skills or time to do the job right.
